How long do African Greys live? In captivity, a well-cared-for African Grey typically lives 40–60 years with a captive lifespan of up to 50–60 years, compared to 30–40 years in the wild — this is a multi-decade commitment, not a short-term pet.

Congo vs. Timneh African Grey — the two recognized subspecies differ mainly in size and coloring: the larger Congo African Grey is grey overall with a bright red tail and all-black beak, while the smaller, darker Timneh has a maroon-colored tail and lighter upper beak.
